The name of this year’s BIMF Bari International Music Festival is inspired by the same two words which Sibelius inscribed above three chords in his friend’s manuscript of the composer’s string quartet, its purpose as elusive as the meaning of the latin text. Meaning either intimate voices or inner voices (the latter has its own musical connotations), the phrase alludes to the brooding conversation between the four players in the quartet, or perhaps Sibelius’ use of the quartet as a vehicle to voice his own furtive thoughts. While Sibelius’ use of this phrase is ambiguous, these words have a certain allure nonetheless. Music has long been the vehicle for expressing man’s inner world, while chamber music is a platform for musical conversation between instruments in live time. The theme of this year’s festival celebrates classical music as one of the most crucial dimensions of inner expression. Where words fail, music speaks.

The festival, scheduled in Bari (Puglia, Southern Italy) from May 24 to June 7, provides for a series of 5 concerts, each preceded by a listening guide, attended by the Maestro Stefania Gianfrancesco, which will start at h. 08.30 PM and will be immediately followed by the concert at h. 09.00 PM.
